Sign marking the historic area of homes in the city of Escondido in northern San Diego County, California.

An area of the historic region of the city of Escondido.

One of the most historic structures in San Diego County [and perhaps the state of California] is the Mission located in the City of San Diego.

First of the 21 missions and known as the Mother of the Missions, Mission San Diego de Alcala was founded on July 16, 1769 by Blessed Junipero Serra. It was designated as a Minor Basilica in 1976 by Pope Paul VI. The Mission today is an active Catholic Parish in the Diocese of San Diego.

Shown above is a scene from the year 2005 of the annual event for the Historic Home Tour of the "old town" region of the city of Escondido in northern San Diego County.   The above house is not for sale; however, the day of the tour the volunteers dress in the costumes of this early American period when the several homes on tour were built.

Photo above is from the 2007 Home Tour and below is the marker near the front door showing the year it was built.

Homes are typically classified as "historic" if they were built more than 50 years ago.
